Spring to summer

We seem to have nearly skipped spring to jump right into summer, so nice to see the grass and wildflowers. 

The antelope are just starting to have their babies and the deer should follow shortly. 

another big wreck

Just a drive carefully PSA as our fire dept responded to another semi wreck on I-80 with a fatality.

Breaking news Sunday after I-80 westbound was closed due to a fatal accident involving two semi trucks.

The call first came into Wyoming Highway Patrol at 5:00pm reporting one semi truck had run into the back of another semi truck right around Mile Marker 350.

Law enforcement told CBS NewsChannel 5 the driver in the first semi was going slow because he was heading uphill.

A second semi was traveling at faster speeds and ended up rear-ending the first semi truck.

Upon impact, the second truck caught fire, unfortunately killing the 52-year-old male driver.

Neither of the drivers' names could be released, the condition of the first driver is also unknown at this time, but witnesses told CBS NewsChannel 5 they saw the first driver walking around the scene of the crash.

With traffic being pushed south due to flooding in MT, I hope that we do not see more of these terrible wrecks this summer.

Moth season

It is miller moth season which means swarms of the adult army cutworm moths are visiting our wildflowers. They don't like daylight so will hide in dark crevices which means that they frequently accidentally wind up inside.

While they are harmless, at night there can be so many that they keep us awake as they fly against the window in an attempt to get out to go feed. The best way to get rid of them is to hang a light over a bowl of soapy water. We empty the bowl daily and it doesn't seem to make a dent in the population.

Planting trees

The ranch boss helped her grandparents transplant some volunteer trees into the wind break at the farm house. 

These important farm jobs are taken very seriously

Now if we could just convince some trees to grow at home...

On our last day visiting with family in Nebraska we made a quick trip to the neighbors place to take some pictures.

Different road conditions

Usually we get snow and ice and slush and quite a bit in between, poor visibility in blizzards and heavy fog.

We headed East for a family visit and had a bunch of water and hail on the road just after we crossed the Nebraska state line

Then later in the day it was breezy and picking up dust from newly tilled fields. For a short distance visibility was only a couple of feet through the dust cloud. We made it without incident but I'll keep my snow, thanks.
